Abstract

Abstract: : In 2017, VA Geriatric Scholars who had completed training between 2008 and 2017 were surveyed on how the program's education and mandatory quality improvement (QI) projects affected their clinical practice and job satisfaction. Methods: A web survey was sent to 643 past Geriatric Scholars. 209 responded (32%). Respondents were stratified by their roles within the VA (primary care, mental health, pharmacy, social work, rehabilitation). Survey highlights: Among primary care respondents, 97% report improved quality of care, 68% report improved clinic efficiency, and 38% report improved access to care for Veterans. The initiation of specific new clinical practices was widely reported as well. (E.g., 97% of primary care respondents report deprescribing as a result of the program. 45% report prescribing non-pharmacologic treatments for sleep.) Results also suggest an improvement in career satisfaction, with 82% of respondents reporting that the program increased their career satisfaction within their role at VA.
