Abstract

Abstract: Nanocrystalline nickel oxide (NiO) powders are synthesized using combustion technique, with nickel nitrate hexahydrate as the oxidizer, and glycine and urea as fuels. Effect of fuel-to-oxidizer ( F / O ) ratio on the powder characteristics such as the shape, particle size, agglomeration, crystallite size, composition, residual carbon content, and sinterability is studied. It is found that, powder characteristics are a strong function of the type of fuel, and the F / O ratio. Compared to powders synthesized using glycine as the fuel, powders synthesized using area had a more spherical shape, smaller and harder agglomerates, smaller crystallite size, less content of metallic Ni, higher residual carbon content, and higher sinterability.
