- Abstract: The Minimum Detectable Activity (MDA) reduction and Compton continuum suppression were performed using portable High-purity Germanium (HPGe) and annular NaI(TI) detectors. In this research, instead of using timing and coincidence electronic modules, the list mode data acquisition was used. This method was very simple but the results was attractive. In the list mode data acquisition technique, the Multiparameter Analyzer (MPA) recorded the time stamp of each event, and the coincidence spectrum can be replayed for a specific coincidence window. Using this method, there is no need for the further data acquisition and by one-time data acquisition, we can replay data for another coincidence time. The suppression factor (SF) for the high-volume standard air filter sample was estimated to be 2.9 while the amount of MDA reduction for this sample was about 30%. Highlights: List mode data acquisition technique was very simple for background reduction. The internal timing circuit of MPA was used to detect coincident events. The simple method was proposed for minimum detectable activity (MDA) reduction. The suppression factor (SF) in the high-volume air filter sample was calculated. Using this technique to identify the low-radioactivity radionuclides.
