- Abstract: Effect of initial texture (transverse and basal) and grain size on compression behavior, slip system activity and density of geometrically necessary dislocation (GND) in Ti64 has been evaluated. It was clearly showed that deformation behavior of Ti64 alloy is strongly dependent to initial texture and grain size of alpha phase. In the case of transverse and basal texture, TD and ND specimens reveal higher resistance to deformation, respectively. Texture and grain size contributions on deformation response are accurately investigated after 10% plastic strain in ND using Schmid factor, Kernel average misorientation and GND maps. In the case of transverse texture with coarse grains, high Schmid factor value of a → -type slip system and high misorientation frequency associated with high GND storage. In the case of basal texture with fine grains, low Schmid factor value of a → -type slip system and low misorientation frequency resulting in activation of high energy < c → + a → > type slip system and eventually low GND storage has been generated.
