Abstract

Abstract: We have studied the wettability and the interface feature of the melted Nd70 Cu30 (at.%) alloy on the ab-plane (parallel to the c-axis) and the c-plane (perpendicular to the c-axis) of a sintered Nd‑Fe‑B magnet. The wettability of the melted Nd70 Cu30 alloy on the ab-plane was much better than that on the c-plane. A zig-zag shaped interface was appeared on the ab-plane while a relatively smooth interface was observed on the c-plane. Shuttle shaped Fe rich phases were generated near the interfaces. The anisotropic distribution of the grain boundary phase in Nd‑Fe‑B magnets was discussed based on the experimental results. Graphical abstract: Unlabelled Image
