- Abstract : ( BMJ . 2021;372:n716) Oxytocin is commonly used to stimulate the uterus and induce labor. Hyperstimulation carries risks to mother and fetus and may increase the likelihood of cesarean delivery (CD). Recent studies suggest that discontinuing oxytocin augmentation will not interrupt labor but may help avoid hyperstimulation. It is unclear if discontinuing oxytocin has an effect on the cesarean rate. This study aims to determine whether discontinuing oxytocin once labor is established reduces the cesarean rate.
