Abstract

Abstract: Cancer genetics is rapidly evolving and improves our understanding of the pathways of disease. This allows us to tailor the therapy and management of women with cancer, and also to help women who carry a predisposition to developing gynaecological cancers. Whilst the majority of gynaecological cancers are sporadic, a predisposition to develop cancer more frequently and earlier can be seen in more than 10% of cases. The most common hereditary syndromes we manage are hereditary breast and/or ovarian cancer and Lynch syndrome (LS). Rarities include Peutz-Jeghers syndrome and Cowden's syndrome.
