- Key Takeaways: A point‐of‐use (POU) filter program helped the City of Newark, N.J., remove lead from the city's drinking water as a temporary measure while corrosion‐control treatment was applied and lead service lines were removed. Customer education and participation were crucial in the analysis of the POU filter program for lead removal at the tap. Use of faucet filters or pitcher filters (with appropriate maintenance), along with regular flushing, yielded superior lead reduction in Newark.
