- Abstract : Empathy lies at the heart of cancer care but historically has been seen as an art, not science, lacking a clear operationalization and evidence base. To better understand the building blocks of empathy from a patient perspective, in the current issue of Cancer, Sanders et al describe the results of a qualitative study into cancer patients' perceptions of empathy.
