Abstract

ABSTRACT: This work proposes a Fuzzy Proximity Index Ranking method to facilitate multi-criteria decision making in fuzzy environment. The proposed method is derived from proximity index value approach by incorporating the fuzzy concept to take care of vagueness in the information provided by the experts. The method is implemented on several multi-criteria decision-making problems taken from the literature to investigate its performance. Ranking results of the proposed method are found closer to those of Fuzzy TOPSIS, Fuzzy MOORA, Fuzzy VIKOR and Fuzzy ELECTRE. Further, a few case studies on rank reversal are presented on three different fuzzy scenarios to examine the robustness of the method. The results revealed that the proposed method suffers least from the rank reversal issue and it generates reasonably accurate ranking order compared to other techniques. Hence, the proposed method is considered a simple fuzzy based multi-criteria decision approach which can be a reliable substitute for existing methods. Graphical Abstract: uf0001
