Abstract

ABSTRACT: The thin slab continuous casting (TSCC) process has emerged as one of the most potential technologies, growingly used in several developed nations, since last two decades. Although a good number of works have been published in the field of continuous casting by pioneering research groups headed by Samarasekera, Brimacombe, Thomas, etc. there is a huge scope of improvement in the physical understanding and modelling aspects of the TSCC process. The higher velocities, higher aspect ratio and funnel shape of the mould in this process have been found to pose major challenges. This work is aimed at compiling the essential summary from literature and providing a comprehensive overview for carrying forward this technology to the next level. The thermal, fluid flow and mechanical aspects of this process have been investigated in detail from the available literature and presented in a lucid form for gaining an in-depth understanding of its state-of-the-art technology.
