- Abstract: Nowadays, materials with negative permittivity have attracted considerable attention owing to their potential extended applications to outperform or complement existing electromagnetic devices. However, high losses usually come with the inductive negative permittivity which would exhaust the incident electromagnetic waves and diminish the expected responses. In this work, silver nanowires (AgNWs) are prepared to construct percolation networks with an extremely low volume fraction of 0.57 vol% in polyimide (PI) matrix. The permittivity transforms from positive to negative when the amount of AgNWs exceeds the percolation threshold, which is ascribed to the inductive feature caused by plasma oscillation of the delocalized electrons in the AgNWs. Weak negative permittivity of −16 and low dielectric loss tangent of 0.07 are observed at 1 GHz thanks to the depressed plasma oscillation and featured ultralow percolating concentration of AgNWs. The AgNWs/PI metacomposite would play significant roles in application fields such as novel capacitors and coil-free inductors.
