- Abstract: In this paper, a non-destructive X-ray computed tomography (XCT) was introduced to measure hidden pore defects inside metallic powder used in additive manufacturing. The internally hidden pores were found to have sizes ranging from 10 μm to 30 μm within those powder particles (size: up to 100 μm). Corresponding porosity in four (4) different metallic powders were determined to be about 0.11% for Inconel 718, 0.02% for virgin Inconel 625, 0.31% for Recycled Inconel 625 and 0.03% for Stainless steel 316 powder materials. It demonstrated that the proposed XCT is applicable to determine the porosity of the powder particles.
