- Abstract: This paper investigates the dynamic interaction between a lined tunnel and an alluvial valley under plane SV waves with the indirect boundary integral equation method (IBIEM). The impact of different parameters on the displacement of sedimentary valley and the dynamic stress concentration factors (DSCF) of the lining inner and outer walls are studied. The dynamic response of a tunnel embedded in an alluvial valley is considerably different from that of a tunnel not embedded in an alluvial valley. Numerical results indicate that under the same frequency, different buried depths can change the distribution of displacement in the sedimentary area. The deeper the tunnel is buried, the more resonance points the response spectrum curve has. In general, the DSCF on the inner surfaces of the tunnels embedded in the sedimentary valley is obviously greater than that of the tunnels in the half space. However, the DSCF on the outer surfaces of the former is smaller than that of the latter. The results reported here will provide a quantitative basis to the security assessment and seismic design of lined tunnels.
