- Abstract: Numerical simulation of non-gray radiation heat transfer is essential for many thermal engineering processes, especially for combustion applications. This work develops open-source non-gray gas radiation solvers based on the OpenFOAM framework. The discrete ordinates method (DOM) and first order spherical harmonics (P1) method are implemented by the advanced numerical discretization utilities provided by the OpenFOAM toolbox. The weighted-sum-of-gray-gases (WSGG) model for the carbon dioxide and water vapor are coupled with the two radiative transfer equation (RTE) solvers. Validations with finite volume method (FVM) are performed to test the accuracy of the developed models. Comparisons show that both solvers can produce very close results to the FVM. The relative error of the DOM and P1 is about 3% and 10% respectively for radiative heat flux calculations.
