- Abstract: Inoculation could effectively improve the quality of composting. However, an inappropriate C/N ratio would limit microbial activity. Thus, it is necessary to develop microbial inoculums (MIs), which could adopt the inappropriate C/N ratio. To close this gap, the co-cultured strains with higher cellulose activity under high C/N ratio and low C/N ratio as MI A and MI B, respectively. Adding MI B to the high nitrogen material piles and MI A to the high carbon material piles could promote lignocellulose degradation rate for 1.35 to 1.84 times. Adding specific inoculum could increase the relative abundance of functional genera for ~1.5 times and made them dominant. Furthermore, inoculated strains could serve as the unique key genus to strengthen the complexity of microbial network for 1.08 to 1.31 times. Therefore, specific inoculation has the potential to enhance microbial cooperation to make microbes to adapt to the inappropriate C/N ratio.
