Abstract

Abstract : There has been great interest in the Indian renewable energy sector, both domestically in India as well as from major corporates abroad, with the Indian Government making it a priority sector in its reforms agenda. A host of changes have been proposed in the regulatory and policy landscape to attract investments and ensure rapid growth of the renewable energy sector in India. The most seminal of these changes is the proposed enactment of the National Renewable Energy Act 2015. This article analyses the key provisions of the Act in the broader context of the development of renewable energy in India; it highlights the key changes, loopholes, hurdles and the road that lies ahead for the industry stakeholders.
