- Abstract: A novel facile method of POCl3 -induced condensation has been developed for the synthesis of planar rigid BODIPYs. These BODIPYs have excellent emission with high quantum yields (up to 87%) in diverse solvents and solid-state. BODIPY-Br with J -aggregation induced the deep red fluorescence at 732 nm in solid-state. Meanwhile, BODIPY-OMe shows strong aggregate emission with AIE effect. Furthermore, the luminous mechanism is illustrated by single-crystal structure and optical properties. Highlights: A novel method has been developed for the synthesis of planar rigid BODIPYs. These BODIPYs have excellent emission due to J -type aggregate. BODIPY-Br with J-aggregation induced the deep red fluorescence at 732 nm in solid-state. BODIPY-OMe shows strong aggregate emission with AIE effect.
