- Abstract: Cayron. [1, 2] has sought to discredit our identification of a 9R structure of copper precipitates in iron. We responded to the first of these papers with a brief rebuttal [3] . Cayron however repeated his claim and has presented new arguments [2] which attempt to explain our electron microscopy images as due to Moiré fringes. We examine Cayron's model, and find it not only physically unconvincing, but incapable of explaining our results. We also present high-resolution micrographs which show clearly the 3-layer motif of the 9R structure, and allow its unambiguous identification, and describe other observations, including fringe rotations and detwinning, which support this identification, and cannot be explained by Cayron's model. We conclude that our identification of the 9R structure in copper precipitates in iron is robust and that Cayron's interpretation is fundamentally flawed.
