Abstract

Abstract : In their Teaching NeuroImage, Dr. Wong and colleagues illustrated the case of a patient with a suspected neoplasm of the lumbar spine. The patient underwent surgical resection of the mass lesion, which was later found to be a ruptured intervertebral disc. This case exemplifies the spectrum of clinical and radiographic findings of an extruded disc. Dr. Beucler et al. discussed the differential diagnosis of suspected spinal neoplasms and highlighted their typical radiographic appearances. This case emphasizes that, on rare occasions, an extruded disc may mimic the clinical and radiologic findings of a spinal tumor, including the complaint of nocturnal back pain.
