- Graphical abstract: Highlights: Mn 3+ was partially substituted on Co-OMS-2. Mn 4+ /Mn 3+ ratio was increased for easy reduction. Co doped OMS-2 exhibited excellent activity with T90 at 245 °C. High reactivity of Olatt were obtained on Co-OMS-2. Olatt was dominant in ring opening at high temperature. Abstract: Different Co doped OMS-2 (Co-OMS-2) catalysts were synthesized by hydrothermal route and employed to benzene oxidation. The effect of Co doping on structure and catalytic properties of Co-OMS-2 was investigated. The doped Co 3+ ions contributed to the partial substitution of Mn 3+ in Co-OMS-2. Compared to OMS-2, the catalytic activity of Co-OMS-2 slightly decreased at low temperature but remarkably promoted at high temperature. The 10Co-OMS-2 catalyst exhibited the outstanding catalytic activity with T90 at 254 °C, which was stable during long-term test at 300 °C for 40 h. The doped Co-OMS-2 possessed less surface adsorbed oxygen species but much more reactive and mobile lattice oxygen species. The surface adsorbed oxygen species and active lattice species were responsible to the oxidation of benzene to phenolate at low temperature and further ring opening to be oxidized into CO2 and H2 O at high temperature, respectively.
