- Abstract: Crystal structure and dielectric properties in YCr1-x Ti x O3 with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1 compositions are reported. A narrow solubility range of Ti into YCrO3 matrix is found. Nevertheless, notorious changes occur in the dielectric and ferroelectric properties. Temperature dependence of permittivity ( ε ') and loss tangent (tan δ ) show a paraelectric and ferroelectric transition at about 240 °C. The broad permittivity peaks and their dependence on frequency strongly suggest a relaxor ferroelectric compound. Furthermore, the dielectric loss decreased by Ti doping. We infer that the substitution of Cr d 3 -orbitals by Ti d o -orbitals decreases the mobility of the free charge carriers inducing the polarization curves restore. The results clearly indicate that the Ti substitution improves the dielectric and ferroelectric properties of YCrO3 and the optimum Ti-doped YCrO3 can be an excellent candidate to extrapolate it towards thin film studies. Highlights: Crystalline and dielectric properties in YCr1-xTixO₃ with 0 ≤ x ≤ 0.1 is studied. The dielectric properties improve with Ti doping. The Ti d⁰ orbitals suppress the mobility of the free charge carriers. The dielectric constant and the diffuseness coefficient decreases with Ti content. Dielectric and ferroelectric optimization occur between 3 and 5% of Ti doping.
