Abstract

Abstract : The cover image by Franck Meyer and his co‐authors highlights the fabrication of thermoplastic polyurethanes (TPUs) targeting the development of catheters for direct biomedical application. First, the reaction conditions were tuned to tailor the mechanical properties of the resulting TPUs. Then, the incorporation of only 0.5 mol% of a biologically active ammonium salt unit endowed the biomaterial with antibacterial against microorganisms such as Staphylococcus aureus and Pseudomonas aeruginosa. The resulting TPU materials showed low cytotoxicity, with 80% SiHa cell viability after 72h. As an industrial approach, the extrusion process gave rise to the fabrication of TPU catheter prototypes.
