Abstract

Highlights: Many human sacrums, is stored in museums, but scarcely used for archaeoparasitological research. This study presents a method for sampling from sacrums and their fragments stored in museum collections. This study shows the informative value of sacrums from museum collections for archaeoparasitological research. Abstract: During archaeological excavations, soil samples may not always be taken from the sacrum of the buried for archaeoparasitological research. At the same time, anthropological material, along with sacrums, is stored in museums and anthropological depositories around the world, but scarcely used for archaeoparasitological research. Therefore, this study presents a method for sampling sacrums and their fragments stored in museum collections and anthropological depositories. Thus, even if sampling was not carried out directly during excavation, sediment obtained from sacrums and their fragments can still be used in archaeoparasitological studies as an alternative to sampling soil from sacrums of the buried. This is the first study of its kind to show the informative value of sacrums from museum collections and anthropological depositories for archaeoparasitological research.
