- Abstract: In order to decrease the corrosion rate of magnesium anode and increase the discharge property of magnesium/air battery, functionalized graphene, poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate)/reduced graphene oxide, and reduced graphene oxide/Mn3 O4 nanometer composite are prepared successfully. The magnesium/air batteries are researched by addition of poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate)/reduced graphene oxide in NaCl electrolyte and reduced graphene oxide/Mn3 O4 nanometer composite as cathode catalyst. The structure and morphology of the poly (sodium 4-styrenesulfonate)/reduced graphene oxide and the reduced graphene oxide/Mn3 O4 nanometer composite are tested by x-ray diffraction, scanning electron microscope and fourier transform infrared spectrophotometer. The magnesium/air battery with the functionalized graphene is found to get high energy density of 1279 Wh kg −1 and anode utilization of 83%, which is higher than that of in NaCl solution and commercial air cathode (935 Wh kg −1 and 47%). The magnesium/air battery based on functionalized graphene shows higher electrochemical activity and anode utilization.
