- Abstract: Wood-plastic composites (WPC) have received considerable interest in the past few years due to its low cost and easy processability. However, the poor anti-aging property in high temperature and humidity remains the major problem for its wildly application. In this study, a mixture consisting of butylated hydroxyanisole (BHA), Ca/Zn stabilizer and 1, 4-butanediol diglycidyl ether (BDDGE) was used to modify the anti-aging property of wood fiber (WF)/polycaprolactone (PCL) composite. To investigate the anti-aging property of the prepared composite, a hydrothermal treatment (72 h, 80 °C, 95% moisture) was employed. After hydrothermal treatment, the surface morphology, thermostability, mechanical property, moisture absorption of the original composite (OC) and the modified composite (MC) were recorded. The result showed that, adding the mixture can efficiently improve the anti-aging property of WF/PCL composite in maintaining surface morphology and mechanical property. Compared with the OC, the loss rate of tensile strength and bending strength of the MC were decreased by 40.86%, 38.63% respectively, the moisture absorption decreased from 6.69% to 4.65%. This result exhibit a method to improve the anti-aging property for the WPC in multi-aspects.
