Abstract

Implementing blockchain technology in New Zealand's dairy supply chain helps with traceability and transparency for the benefit of key stakeholders of the supply chain allowing for the tracking of information throughout the supply chain. The article looks at the current 'state of play' and looks at benefits yielded on the basis of the technology used in the supply chain of other industries, culminating on how this improves aspects of New Zealand's dairy industry. As part of this, attention is drawn on what a blockchain technology does and how the technology works to add quality and value to the final food product, with blockchains creating an advantage in providing real-time data about its location of the product, with wastage to be reduced and providing an opportunity to trace the origins.
