- Abstract: Ensuring the sharp roll‐off property of a filtering antenna in many applications is regarded as one of the highest priorities and requires the designers' full concentration. This work devotes itself to challenge the remarkably roll‐off characteristics by searching for the best fragment‐type patterns etched on a ultrawideband monopole radiator without using any other auxiliary components or resonant structures. The etch pattern is obtained technically by coping with the multi‐objective optimization issue based on the initial band notch generated by joint slits. Guide rules for presetting the two slits are also proposed. The results of roll‐off criterion (ROC) = 0.83 for notching the WLAN band ranging from 5.15 to 5.84 GHz and ROC = 0.91 for notching a broad band ranging from 4.8 to 6.35 GHz are presented in detail.
