- Abstract: Pine saw dust (with and without alkali soaking) were given anaerobic or sonication only treatments and subjected to lignin extraction with acid catalysed gamma valerolactone acetone reagent combination. The highest lignin yield was obtained from anaerobic treated alkali soaked pine saw dust residue (43%). All the lignin samples showed noticeable features in terms of purity such as Klason lignin contents, CHO analysis together with molecular weights and FTIR for these to be an effective renewable feedstock for biomaterials production. Furthermore, the lignin based PVA thin film composites showed distinct features in terms of their thermal stability and also in the FTIR spectra it was quite obvious that the lignin was successfully incorporated for the production of sustainable materials. From here it can be deduced that this kind of lignin extraction approach can be a distinct green scheme for the residues collected from biorefinery wastes. Graphical abstract: Unlabelled Image Highlights: GVL: Acetone with HCl was found an effective lignin dissolution reagent combination. Anaerobic treatment was effective to yield lignin with good polydispersity value. Lignin elemental analysis and klason contents showed promising results. All the lignin samples were successfully incorporated to make sustainable composites.
