- Abstract : Zidovudine (▾ Retrovir - Wellcome) is active against the human immunodeficiency virus (HIV). It is the first drug licensed for 'the management of the serious manifestations of HIV infection in patients with Acquired Immunodeficiency Syndrome (AIDS) or AIDS-related complex (ARC)'. This article discusses clinical experience with zidovudine so far, and how it may be best used.
