- Abstract: In this experimental work wire electro discharge machining (WEDM) process has been applied on AISI 4140 steel alloy to achieve better quality responses. L9 orthogonal array (OA) of Taguchi is used as design of experiment (DOE) for this work where pulse-on-time (Ton ), pulse-off-time (Toff ) and wire tension (WT) has been considered as input process parameters while considering kerf width, material removal rate (MRR), dimensional deviation, surface roughness (Ra ), and delamination factor are responses. Grey relational analysis (GRA) integrates with logic of fuzzy is applied successfully on the results in order to obtain the optimum parametric mix. The obtained optimal parametric mix shows a significant improvement of 1.37% when compared to the best experimental trial. Moreover, analysis of variance (ANOVA) table confirms that Ton is the most influential parameters for this machining process. Finally, a regression model is developed along with the corresponding surface plots, which will further helps the process engineering in easy selection of process parameters levels so as to obtain the desired responses.
