Abstract

Abstract: Biodiesel has environmental friendly energy source and acts as substitute to petroleum-derived diesel. Crude rice bran oil is establish to be superior and feasible feedstock for biodiesel production. The present study investigates the emission characteristics on variable compression ratio (VCR) diesel engine fuelled with rice bran biodiesel blends at various ratios. The rice bran oil is prepared and blended with diesel in five different compositions varying from 0 to 100%. Tests were conducted at five various engine load conditions ranging 0% to 100%. The variations on exhaust emissions such as carbon monoxide, hydrocarbon and nitric oxides are analyzed. The experimental results showed that increase in blends of rice bran biodiesel with diesel reduces the carbon monoxide and increases the carbon dioxide and hydrocarbon in emission.
