- Highlights: Al-Mg4.5Mn alloy was processed by hybrid in situ rolled wire + arc additive manufacturing. Anisotropic mechanical properties are related to grain misorientation and texture. The difference of FCG rate is determined by the microstructure of crack tip. Abstract: The mechanical properties of Al-Mg4.5Mn alloy manufactured by hybrid in situ rolled wire + arc additive manufacturing (HRAM) in different notch orientations were evaluated. Then, the fatigue crack propagation (FCG) tests were conducted on specimens of the HRAM-processed Al-Mg4.5Mn alloy. After that, the microstructure near the crack tip of two specimens from different notch orientations was analysed using electron backscatter diffraction. The results show that the HRAM-processed Al-Mg4.5Mn alloy can achieve superior tensile properties compared to the commercial ER5087, and the mechanical properties and FCG behaviour of the HRAM-processed Al-Mg4.5Mn alloy were correlated with the microstructural features and stress ratio.
