- Abstract : Friction and wear behaviors of Ti alloys are vital to their applications in aerospace components and ocean devices. The spherical SnAgCu–Al2 O3 (S–SA) are synthesized via spark plasma sintering (SPS) to prepare the Ti–S–SA for achieving excellent lubrication. On a ball‐on‐flat tribometer, Ti–S–SA exhibits the best friction and wear performance among the samples prepared by SPS. Approximately 12.0 wt% of Al2 O3 is coated with 15.0 wt% SnAgCu to form a SnAgCu‐enriched film, resulting in the reduction of binding ability of the Al2 O3 with the surface material. The rotation of Al2 O3 particles improved as SnAgCu deformed under a low load. Subsequently, the friction resistance reduces, and a low material loss is observed from the friction surface; these phenomena facilitate excellent tribological behavior. Under coordinating functions of 12.0 wt% Al2 O3 and 15.0 wt% SnAgCu, Ti–S–SA shows a friction coefficient of 0.20 and the wear rate of ≈3.39 × 10 −4 mm 3 N −1 m −1 . Abstract : Spherical SnAgCu–Al2 O3 (S–SA) is interspersed in the friction interface, the result is shown. Al2 O3 is covered with SnAgCu on the friction interface to show excellent combination, and resulted in formation of spherical SnAgCu‐enriched film. The SnAgCu undergo plastic deformation to facilitate rotation of spherical Al2 O3, thus, the Ti–S–(SA) obtains the excellent tribological performances.
