Abstract

Abstract : The Australian rainforest plant, Croton insularis, has provided a further casbane diterpene family member in the form of EBC‐342, which contains a novel tetrahydrofuran ring. A combination of DP4 and TD‐DFT CD methods were required to confirm both structure and absolute stereochemistry. Abstract : Although well known, the casbane family of natural products are not often isolated from either terrestrial or marine environments. The Australian Rainforest plant Croton insularis has provided a number of interesting casbanes, of which EBC‐342 described herein, is the first to contain a tetrahydrofuran ring. DP4 and TD‐DFT calculations confirmed the structure and solved the absolute stereochemistry.
