- Abstract: The surface finish of ground workpieces often presents periodic marks related to different vibration frequencies. In some cases, however, the identification of the vibration source is not straightforward. Even low amplitude vibrations could create visually unacceptable surface waviness due to beating frequencies appearance. This paper introduces this phenomenon during the dressing process as an origin of the undesirable surface topography in grinding operations. The effect of dynamic and process parameters in this phenomenon has been analysed and a procedure to overcome the problem has been proposed. Finally, an experimental validation to demonstrate the validity of the methodology is shown.
