Abstract

Abstract : Primary amine‐bearing desferrioxamine siderophores produced in bacterial culture were transformed to azido analogues by adding imidazole‐1‐sulfonyl azide hydrogen sulfate directly to the medium. Following the removal of excess diazo‐transfer reagent, the azido‐desferrioxamine siderophores were competent reagents in click chemistry reactions, with biotin‐tagged analogues successfully generated. This simple pathway could have general use in generating molecular probes of other amine‐bearing natural products and expands the toolbox for chemical proteomics and drug discovery.
