- Abstract: Sodium citrate (SC) and thermoplastic polyester‐ether elastomer (TPEE) were used as modifiers to improve the crystallization behaviors and mechanical properties of poly(ethylene terephthalate) (PET) via melt blending method, which aimed to resolve the problems of slow crystallization rate, poor toughness, and poor compatibility of blends. The crystallization and mechanical properties of PET/TPEE/SC blends were systematically investigated. The results showed that SC had an effective nucleation effect on PET and TPEE could improve the toughness of PET. For PET/TPEE blends, the crystallization temperature and crystallization rate of PET decreased with the increase of TPEE content, but adding 0.6 wt% SC to PET/TPEE blends would improve the crystallization rate of PET/TPEE/SC blends. The incorporation of SC and TPEE had an effect on the long period, but it had little effect on the crystal structure of PET. Moreover, PET/TPEE/SC blends had good impact toughness and plasticity. Abstract : Problems such as the slow crystallization rate, poor toughness, and poor compatibility of PET blends remain to be solved. In this article, sodium citrate (SC) was added into PET/TPEE blends to induce rapid crystallization of PET melt at high temperatures to form a gel network as the crystalline region to limit the isolation of TPEE during the cooling process. The crystallization rate and toughness of PET were improved simultaneously.
