- Abstract: Stabilization is one of the significant remedial measures to decrease swelling properties of expansive soil. Moisture content significantly affects the strength properties of expansive soils. This study was conducted to investigate the effects of sawdust ash, crumb rubber and sawdust on Atterberg limits of expansive soil. Atterberg limit tests were performed as per the L9 orthogonal array plan with three factors and three levels. Design of experiment was done by using Taguchi methods with Minitab 18 software. Nine groups of consistency limits were conducted for each trial of 0–20% sawdust ash, 0–20% crumb rubber and 0–8% sawdust based on the total dry weight of the mix. According to the results of experiments, the most effective additive materials for reducing the liquid limit and plasticity index of the samples were sawdust ash and crumb rubber respectively.
