- Abstract: Shear wave elastography (SWE) has been demonstrated to be promising in differentiating malignant tumors from benign ones. In this paper, a biomechanical model has been developed upon which an analytical solution has been derived to predict the effect of the interstitial fluid pressure (IFP) on SWE of solid tumors. Our model and analysis reveal a strong correlation between the IFP and shear wave velocity (SWV) in a solid tumor, which helps understand the physics underlying the elevated stiffness of malignant tumors as measured in clinics. Moreover, the analytical solution derived in this study may be used to infer the variation of IFP in a solid tumor in vivo in a non-invasive manner.
