Abstract

Abstract: Epoxy composites with carbon particles show a range of properties omposite properties are a mixture of intrinsic properties of ingredient phases, so filler contribution in designing composite property intensely relates to volume fraction. Along with that, the interface between matrix and filler plays a vital role in defining the reinforcement mechanism. Filler particles with compatible surface chemistry bring particle–matrix connections on atomic level. Surface chemistry governs the shape of filler either in isolated domains, aggregates, or clusters (group of aggregates), which stem complex orientations. Aggregation may result in poor dispersion of filler that effects its distribution. This diversity of forms makes it feasible to tailor composite properties. This review contains data on both quantitative and qualitative effects of filler on thermomechanical behavior of epoxy composites.
