- Abstract: Small Angle Neutron Scattering (SANS) measures the angular distribution of neutrons scattered by the sample to calculate the momentum transfer in the scattering process. However, the incident neutrons may firstly undergo unwanted collisions with the detector's structural material before they are registered. The detection of such spurious neutrons might lead to a biased interpretation to the microstructure of the inspected sample. A newly-designed boron-lined honeycomb converter based gaseous neutron detector is introduced in this study to provide a capability for suppressing the spurious neutrons. The simulation and experimental results indicate that a 3 to 10 times improvement for the spurious neutron suppression capability could be achieved.
