Abstract

Highlights: Geophysics offer effective methods for understanding socio-spatial practices. Angel social identities were negotiated in both monumental and residential landscapes. Mound C was converted to a defensive structure as the Angel Mounds site contracted. The lunar Angel Axis was repeated in residential architecture at hinterland sites. Nearly one quarter of hinterland structures were aligned to the Angel Axis.
