Highlights: How to determine melting temperature with DSC. How to determine enthalpy of fusion with DSC. How to determine heat capacity with DSC. How to assess uncertainty in melting temperature, enthalpy of fusion and heat capacity. Abstract: Phase change materials have important roles in a more energy-efficient world. However, the literature concerning their thermal properties is not always as accurate as it could be. Three important physical properties of phase change materials, as determined by differential scanning calorimetry, namely transition temperature ( T trs ), enthalpy of fusion (Δfus H ), and heat capacity ( Cp ( T )), are examined, and recommendations are made concerning accurate property determination.
