Abstract

Abstract : Integration of wind turbines to power systems affects voltage profile and voltage stability, which can be controlled by a coordinated operation of on‐load tap changers (OLTCs). Therefore, coordination and the interaction between the OLTCs and wind turbines (WTs) need to be investigated and taken into account during operational phase. Considering the existing challenges pertaining to integration of WTs to the systems, this study proposes a Taguchi's‐based method to determine size of WTs and optimal tap settings of OLTCs to improve voltage stability of the system. The study also devises a method to identify the critical transformer whose operation is detrimental for voltage stability. The proposed method is tested on IEEE 30‐bus test system.
