- Abstract : Doubly fed wind farms are usually integrated into power systems with voltage source converter‐based high‐voltage direct current (VSC‐HVDC). An overvoltage is produced in the DC side of VSC‐HVDC when the fault occurs at the grid side, which could cause the system collapse. Some methods are proposed to restrain the overvoltage by changing the frequency of wind farm. However, the impacts caused by the frequency variation on doubly fed induction generator (DFIG) have not been considered. Here, the transient characteristics of DFIG under frequency change were analysed. The frequency controllable margin of a DFIG was obtained according to the limit of rotor current and rotor speed. An ascending frequency strategy of a wind farm side voltage source converter was proposed with consideration of the controllable margin. The effectiveness of the proposed control strategy for fault ride‐through was verified by simulations in Matlab/Simulink.
