- Abstract : The power transmission characteristics of the high‐voltage DC (HVDC) feeding system are the key issues to evaluate the ability of the grid to eliminate DC power. The characteristics of a single voltage source converter‐based high‐voltage DC (VSC‐HVDC) feeding DC–AC system is divided into two stages. In the first stage, when delivering little reactive power, the active and reactive power flowing out of the converter must meet certain constraints. This study deduces an analytical expression of maximum transmiTable active power considering the constraints. Based on this expression, the influence of the main parameters on the maximum transmiTable power can be accurately analysed. In the second stage, when delivering much reactive power, the characteristics are mainly constrained by the converter capacity. DC–AC systems with sufficient reactive power compensation can transmit rated active power. DC–AC systems have no reactive power compensation equipment are limited by the capacity of the converter. In this case, the values of active and reactive power transmitted are on the power circle of the converter. This study offers a method of calculating the maximum transmission active power varying with reactive power in a single VSC‐HVDC feeding DC–AC system. The method has important reference value for guiding the actual project construction and operation.
