- Abstract : Evidence‐Based Answer : Supplementation with daily fish oil or other long‐chain polyunsaturated fatty acids (LCPUFA) during pregnancy reduces early preterm birth (<34 weeks) in high‐risk pregnancies and slightly increases birth weight (SOR: A, meta‐analysis of RCT). Infants born to mothers who are supplemented with fish oil have fewer illness symptoms including upper respiratory and gastrointestinal symptoms (SOR: B, low‐quality RCT) and may have less atopic disease (SOR: B, underpowered RCTs).
