- Abstract : Evidence‐Based Answer : Prophylactic antibiotics are not indicated for patients with mitral valve prolapse (MVP), whether or not they have symptoms. Patients with a history of infective endocarditis, prosthetic valves, cardiac transplant recipients with valve regurgitation, or congenital heart disease should receive antibiotics when undergoing dental procedures or surgery (SOR: C, consensus guidelines).
