Abstract

Abstract: Citrus macroptera, an indigenous fruit in Bangladesh, is usually used for folk treatment and culinary purposes. Considering its application context, this study was designed to detect and quantify the ascorbic acid (AA) content in C. macroptera fruit pulp juice (CMFPJ) by high performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) equipped with an ultraviolet detector setted at 254 nm. Separation of AA was performed using a reversed-phase analytical C8 column which was thermostatically controlled at 25°C. AA was eluted by the isocratic flow of 99 % water plus 1 % acetonitrile at 1 mL/min. The chromatogram of AA was found at 6.587 minutes. A total of 297.93 ± 1.1 mg AA was measured per 100 g crude CMFPJ. Overall, this is a very simple and easy method for detecting AA in the plant extract.
